Kentaro Comes To Rock The Works!

DJ Kentaro, the Japanese turntablist whiz and the first asian to ever win the DMC Championships when he swept away the competition in 2002 is coming to the Works on Wednesday April 13th thanks to Sunset Promotions and Public Works. Since that triumph Kentaro has notched up more achievements and played large festivals in Japan and beyond.

He released a mix album on respected UK label Ninjatune in December of 2005. Part of the label’s expansive Solid Steel Presents Series, Solid Steel Presents DJ Kentaro: On The Wheels Of Solid Steel featured tracks by the likes of Wagon Christ, Jagga Jazzist, DJ Food and the label founders themselves, Coldcut. Then in Jan 2005 he released his first DVD, “National Geoscratch,” which chronicles his mammoth 40-day, solo tour of Europe. The disc also featured the video “Loop Daigakuin,” which has generated over 2,000,000 youtube views.

Following this Kentaro went beyond just djing and began working with musicians and singers, and by 2006 he had signed to Ninja Tune as an artist proper, releasing his first album, Enter, in 2007. He continues to tour, put out music and mix compilations and in a couple of weeks you will be able to see why he’s such an in demand master of the ones and twos. So stop by on April 13th and see him do his thing.

The hosts for the evening will be the mighty Slayer’s Club and the event will also be a benefit for those struggling with the after effects of the earthquake in Japan. Proceeds will be donated to Global Givings Japan Earthquake and Tsunami relief fund.
