Well, that was a success. Thanks to all of you, we raised $5,351, all of which will be donated to Sahayeta, adding to their impressive $143,532 already raised. We’ve just heard from Sahayeta that the money we raised will be used to focus on rebuilding schools and health clinics in remote areas that have been isolated and shut down because of poor road conditions. Amongst the many nonprofits working to benefit Nepal, we chose Sahayeta because they’re Bay Area-based and are owned and operated by immigrants and refugees from the Himalayan region, with a team on the ground in Nepal working to rebuild and reconstruct to prepare for the upcoming monsoon season.

If you’re a fan of Public Works, you know that we’re fans of Burning Man. Since we launched a little over four years ago, we’ve worked closely with the Burning Man community, hosting events of all kinds. We’re happy to share details of two upcoming events that are hosted by the Burning Man community, but will appeal to everyone: killer music (of course), a wonderful fundraiser with amazing raffle prizes, and a cerebral Black Rock art-centric panel discussion hosted by SFMOMA!
Friday, June 5 — Burners for Nepal
This Friday, we’re hosting a very special dance-party-plus-more, in partnership with several different Burning Man camps and Sahayeta (http://www.sahayeta.org/beta/), a San Francisco-based nonprofit launched by individuals, immigrants and refugees from the Himalayan region to provide a support system for the Himalayan community.
