We are proud to present:
Jon Weiss’s solo show “Just Beneath”

New paintings by Bay Area artist Jon Weiss features large scale works on canvas depicting forms and abstractions, anatomical and mysterious by nature. Done all in the past four years it is the culmination of some personal experiences resulting from loss and now literally going beneath the surface bringing new ideas and strength to life. Featured is one painting of a three piece series called “Biotanical” done on large unframed canvas, able to adapt and conform to various architectural spaces and serve as portable murals.
The place deep in the fabric of living things and crossing into the surreal is where these paintings exist.

Jon Weiss is an artist who’s work reflects a wide variety of styles and influences throughout it’s many facets. Beginning at a young age with a fascination for classical art and progressing to the masters of the surreal and many postmodern artists working today, the goal has always been to transport the viewer past the natural and earthly elements to a more dreamlike or more molecular level as in designs and geometrics.
Studying both at the San Francisco Academy of Art and the SF Art Institute in the late 80′s and early 90′s Jon has been an active Bay Area artist the past 20 years in many capacities. In particular the past 15 years have been spent being involved in the creation of painting many large scale murals for businesses and private institutions. His art can also be found on many CD and book illustrations as well. In the past few years leading up to to his recent series of paintings, the focus has been on movable art created on custom folding screens in the form of traditional and not so traditional designs.

As well as defining himself in the world of visual arts music has been a key component of Jon’s career. Starting as a classical musician at a young age and then becoming in love with drums, he has played and toured worldwide extensively with many musical artists of various styles and continues to the present.

“I found a real love for drums and percussion and have played and toured for most of my adult life. The connection of rhythm and motion is clearly reflected in my art and is the emotional basis for what I create visually.”
