Demdike Stare have singlehandedly crafted a new genre, and how much can be said for the majority of all the new artists of the past decade? Meet Sean Canty and Miles Whittaker, purveyors of their hauntology aesthetic. Desert gothtronics, is perhaps another way to describe their sound, something like Omar Souleyman hosting a witches’ cult ritual dance soundtracked by Mika Vainio. But its so much more. Nordic doom metal and West Indian library records hold just as much weight as Anatolian fuzz rhythms and Lancashirian industrial soundscapes in Demdikes’ world… as convention and stylistic expectation is out the window, traded in for the listeners deep trust in this duos’ profound musical palette as heard and seen through a loose dub techno aesthetic. Non Stop Bhangra has started off the New Year at a massive level. After four packed months at their new monthly home at Public Works featuring artists from all over North America, they are bringing the focus back to the Bay this month.
Celebrating the return of World music pioneer Cheb I Sabbah who will be bringing his legendary 1002 Nights vibe to the event for a special late night extended DJ set. This will be his first show back in SF after battling stage four cancer which brought together the music scene from SF and all around the globe in support.
